Short answer text entry items require users to produce a single word or numerical expression.
Short answer text entry items can be presented with audio online, and a screen reader can be used to review the response after it has been entered. Short answer text entry items on paper-and-pencil or braille test forms must be hand scored. Constructed response items are not suitable for optical scan answer sheets because they must be hand scored.
