Documents

The following documentation was produced as part of the ATEA project.

The following additional documentation was produced concurrently with ATEA project activities, independently of the requirements for fulfillment of the terms of the ATEA grant.

The recommendations for audio delivery of technology-enhanced test items are intended to assist test developers in producing accessible online assessments for K–12 students with vision or reading disabilities. They may also be used to help item writers identify accessible alternatives during new content development. The recommendations were produced by incorporating lessons learned from applying text-to-speech accommodations to innovative TE item types, taking into account recommendations of the Guidelines for Accessible Assessments Project. Currently, the document includes in-depth recommendations for audio presentation of a variety of mathematical symbols, number formats, and expressions, as well as graphs, tables, and various diagrams. The release of guidelines for additional subjects is planned for the future.

The guidelines for ASL item presentation provide test developers with specific standards for facilitation of English-based content access for deaf and heard-of-hearing K–12 students through use of American Sign Language. The guidelines were developed through cooperation among test developers and native ASL signers with expertise in ASL-English translation and were informed by results of the Guidelines for Accessible Assessments Project. Guidelines for presentation of both mathematics and listening items are given.
